Farewell Nathan

Staff come, and staff go. It is the nature of any business. Perhaps in the restaurant business the frequency is a little higher and the faces start to come and go like ships in the night. Sometimes the passing of a member of the team can go almost without notice as a fresh pair of legs arrives to fill their shoes. Sometimes, if you have been very lucky, their departure is a cause for sadness and a sense of loss.

We all had that feeling last night as we said a ‘goodbye’ and ‘thank you’ to Nathan Treadwell. Nathan has been with us since the beginning in his role as Kitchen Porter.

Now, even those of you who have never set foot beyond the swing doors of a professional kitchen will understand that a Kitchen Porter is not the most prestigious role in a restaurant, but I can tell you that it is as vital as any other in the restaurant. Nathan’s efficiency and attention to detail was second to none and such was his ability that he was able to instil a sense of confidence throughout the restaurant that allowed us all to perform our own tasks better. It is so important for a small team that each member is pulling their own weight, and Nathan did that tirelessly each time he clocked in, and until his card was punched for the last time.

On brighter note, Nathan is not moving too far away as he joins the Gardening and Landscaping team of Arundel Castle and the Arundel Estate and we hope they fully appreciate the asset they have acquired. Perhaps if you are visiting the Castle during your visit to Arundel, you’ll say a ‘hello’ to Nathan from all of us at Arundel House!

"Boutique hotel for sale!"

So read the headlines in the local newspaper the last time rumours of the impending sale of Arundel House spread like wildfire through the town. Once again word has reached our ears that we have, or are about to, sell Arundel House and we would like to reassure you that nothing could be further from the truth.

for-sale-sign
Arundel House has been advertised for sale for many years and full details can be found at Christie & Co. In this day and age we challenge you to find any business that is not for sale at the right price. We are quite open to the possibility that Arundel House may find a buyer one day, and we won’t deny that the opportunities to develop our business excite us tremendously. Others are quite the opposite, and few of us will invite you to the board meeting to join in the discussions.

Rest assured that if it should ever happen, you will hear it from us first, as we invite you all to the opening of our new venue!

Artwork for Sale

Last year we hosted Hungarian photographer Peter Nemeth for the 2009 Arundel Gallery Trail. Peter’s work has been impressing our guests for a full year now and he is busy preparing new works for the 2010 Trail. As such, all of the work hanging in our restaurant is currently available for a staggering £45 per piece. Tremendous value for such beautiful work. This offer is only available direct from Arundel House, and until August 20th, 2010.
